Bernard Barker - Accompanist
Bernard has been our accompanist since 1994 but in fact is far more than this. In addition to being a brilliant organist and musician, he is also an experienced choral Music Director in his own right, which enables him to slide effortlessly into that role for us when required, either for "sectionals" or for the odd rehearsal when Simon is unavailable.
Bernard studied at Durham University and earlier at the Royal College of Music with Sir David Wilcocks, Christopher Robinson and the late Dr W S Lloyd Webber where, among other qualificiations, he gained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists at the age of 18. Bernard has been Organist at Ealing Abbey and at St George's Church, Hanover Square, and Music Director of various choirs including the Chandos Chamber Choir from 1987 to 1994. He is currently Director of Music at St Mark's Church, Regents Park and of the Regent Singers.
Bernard’s skills and subtle humour as our accompanist are highly valued and are an essential part of the purposeful yet relaxed atmosphere evident at our weekly rehearsals.
