Past seasons: 2007-2008 Season
The 2007-2008 season began with strong memories of the very successful and enjoyable tour to France with which we finished the previous season, and which set us up very well for what turned out to be quite a demanding year.
Our first concert was part of Voices for Hospices, where we sang in support of St Luke's Hospice and were joined by a large and enthusiastic audience of both singers and spectators at St George's Church, Pinner View. We performed two highly popular choral works - Faure's Requiem and Vivaldi's Gloria.
Our Christmas Celebration at the Speech Room of Harrow School on 15th December was as popular as ever and our guest speaker, returning by popular demand, was Josephine Tewson.
Moving into 2008, our Spring Concert on 8th March was in fact a joint concert with the Chiltern Choir, with whom we have a long-standing informal association, and we performed Bach's St Matthew Passion - universally acknowledged as one of the great musical masterpieces. The magnificent venue of St Albans Abbey was an entirely appropriate venue for this work. The conductor was our Simon Williams and the orchestra was Charivari Agréable who specialise in the use of period instruments of the Baroque era.
On 28th June, we performed our Summer Concert, where the programme was Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes, together with a selection of madrigals, and Genesis by Richard Taylor - a work that a significant proportion of the choir performed with other choirs on stage at the London Coliseum in July 2006 as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of ENO Bayliss (English National Opera's educational arm).
We then performed this same programme on our Away-Day to Malmesbury in Wiltshire on 5th July - a very enjoyable day out for the choir where we had a chance to sing and socialise together away from our normal environment.
In case we needed just one more chance to get the performance right (!), we accepted an invitation to sing in the public area of the Royal Festival Hall on the afternoon of Sunday 31st August. They were running a series of events during Summer 2008 showcasing choral singing. We were delighted to be highlighted in the Times cultural supplement as being one of the top 5 "events worth seeing" on that day, and the audience certainly gave us an enthusiastic climax to one of our longer seasons!
