Hilary Musgrave - Singing for Starters

Hilary Musgrave was born in Co. Durham and studied singing with Joy Mammen at the Royal Academy of Music. Subsequently, she gained a great deal of performing experience, especially in opera and sang leading roles with many opera groups in the London area as well as teaching stage movement at the Royal Academy of Music and the National Opera Studio.

Hilary is an experienced soprano soloist and in addition to teaching singing, has been running ‘Singing for Starters’ since 1996. In 1999 she was asked to form and conduct ‘Harrow Harmony’. This has proved to be very enjoyable and the 65 strong choir has gained in strength and confidence and now stages concerts in the local area three times a year, performing an eclectic mix of repertoire from The Beatles to Haydn and Abba to Vivaldi.

Recent engagements have seen Hilary as soprano soloist in Haydn’s ‘The Creation’ in both Harrow and Bournemouth and in July 2007 she again appeared with Harrow Choral Society to sing John Rutter’s ‘Requiem’. In October she was soprano soloist in Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’ and Faure’s ‘Requiem’ for the ‘Voices for Hospices’ concert in Harrow.

As well as performing as a soloist, Hilary’s main musical interest lies in enthusing others about singing and the joys of performing as a group.
