Events - Summer Concert 2009
Location: Elliott Hall, Harrow Arts Centre - Hatch End
Date: Saturday 4th July 2009 at 12:30pm
On Saturday 4th July, we will be performing our Summer Concert at the Harrow Arts Centre in Hatch End. Traditionally, our final scheduled concert of the season is somewhat lighter than those that precede it and the programme this year follows this pattern. We will be singing some well-known and, hopefully, popular opera choruses together with arrangements from two of the most enduring west-end musicals Les Miserables and, perhaps by contrast, My Fair Lady.

Alison Henson Jones
We are delighted to welcome Alison Henson Jones, Mezzo Soprano, as our soloist for this concert, and also for our Away-Day to Whitstable the following week.
Alison was born in Cardiff and studied piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Later, she gained an Honours Degree and PGCE in Modern Languages. She took up singing and studies with renowned mezzo, Ameral Gunson and repetiteurs, Paul Hamburger and James Lockhart. Alison gave an acclaimed performance as Orfeo for the Aldeburgh Music Club, in Aldeburgh. She has performed for Opera Omnibus. Roles include the title role in Carmen for Simon Gray's (Regency Opera, English Festival Opera) company, Flora in La Traviata, Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus and Kate Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly.
Alison lives in Sussex with her family and is a Welsh rugby supporter and fan of yoga.
Ian Caley
We are also delighted to welcome Ian Caley as our tenor soloist and also our "master of ceremonies" for the evening. In addition to being our very popular President, Ian is also one of the country's most versatile tenors with a repertoire stretching from Pre-Classical to contemporary.
His professional debut came at Glyndebourne alongside Dame Janet Baker and Benjamin Luxon where he was awarded the John Christie Prize for the outstanding young singer of the season. Among the roles he performed in his early career was that of Tom Rakewell, in The Rake’s Progress which saw the professional debut of Sir Simon Rattle, establishing a continuing partnership.
Alongside his opera work, Ian has always had a varied and much-enjoyed concert career, working with major international conductors. It has taken him to most European countries as well as to the USA, Canada, Israel and Japan, providing him with an even more varied repertoire than in the Opera House. In a new career development he now coaches and advises Trainees at the National Opera Studio.
