Bernard has been our accompanist since 1994 but in fact is far more than this. In addition to being a brilliant organist and musician, he is also an experienced choral Music Director in his own right, which enables him to slide effortlessly into that role for us when required, either for "sectionals" or for the odd rehearsal when Simon is unavailable.
Bernard studied at the Royal College of Music and Durham University with Sir David Willcocks, Christopher Robinson and the late Dr W S Lloyd Webber, where, amongst other qualifications, he gained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists at the age of eighteen. Formerly organist of Ealing Abbey, St George's Hanover Square and for fifteen years, Director of Music at a central London church, he has also worked with many choirs in London, the provinces and abroad, directing the Chandos Chamber Choir for a number of years.
He now works as a freelance accompanist, chorusmaster, conductor and organist, working in many countries around the world. He is also on the music staff of St James' Piccadilly, where he helps with the busy music programme, and is an examiner for the ABRSM.
Bernard’s skills and subtle humour as our accompanist are highly valued and are an essential part of the purposeful yet relaxed atmosphere evident at our weekly rehearsals.
