She studies Conducting with Manvinder Rattan (Sing for Pleasure) and Amy Bebbington (ABCD). In addition to running Singing for Starters, she is the Choral Director of North Middlesex Federation Townswomen’s Guild Choir.
This is what Julie says about her role with Singing for Starters:
"Singing for Starters is a wonderful and much needed initiative. There are so many budding singers around who would love to sing at the level of Harrow Choral Society but who are afraid of the audition or unconfident that they have what it takes. Some join other non-audition choirs but many others don't and end up missing out on such a life-enhancing experience. If this sounds like you please come and join us.
More and more scientific studies are being published showing not only the social benefits but also the enormous health benefits of singing in a choir, from endorphins improving mood to an actual increase in life expectancy. Now is the time to be singing.
The Singing for Starters programme 2018 - 2019 will be informal and nurturing, encouraging and praising but also challenging. It will focus on helping a singer develop the vocal technique and musicianship necessary for singing in a choir as well as learning how to sing well with others, interpret the music, tell the story and (very high on the agenda) have fun!
The ultimate aim of the course is to develop a fully-rounded chorister, ready to take on the challenges and joys of singing with Harrow Choral Society."
