Past seasons: 2000-2001 Season
The 2000/2001 season started with the choir participating in the BT Voices for Hospices 2000 - the nationwide performances of Messiah by Handel on 14th October. Our performance was in the Great Hall of Hatch End High School.
The Christmas Celebration was held on Saturday 16th December at the Elliott Hall, Harrow Arts Centre. In January 2001, Harrow Choral Society recorded a CD of Christmas Music entitled Cum Cantibus in Choro - still very much available! Please contact us for details or if you would like to purchase a copy.
Saturday 10th March 2001 Spring Concert - Harrow Choral Society joined forces with The Chiltern Choir to perform Verdi Requiem in St Alban's Abbey - a highly successful concert and generally regarded as having been one of the choir's best performances. Saturday 30th June 2001 Summer Concert - The choir performed Duruflé Requiem and Handel's The King Shall Rejoice, together with shorter works by Purcell. Byrd, Tallis and John Tavener, at the Church of St John Fisher, North Harrow.
25th - 29th July 2001 Summer tour to the Loire Valley. This was one of the undoubted highlights of the year and involved the performance of the programme from the Summer Concert. The programme for that concert had been selected with the Summer Tour very much in mind combining, as it does, examples of the best of English and French sacred choral music.
Unfortunately not all chor members were able to attend this 5 day 'working holiday', with its happy combination of sightseeing, shopping and extensive sampling of the food and wine of the region. Oh, and singing! However, there were about 70 of us, performing in three of the most beautiful cathedrals in this idyllic region of France.
Overseas visits of this nature are organised every three years or so, and this was one of the most successful and enjoyable up to that time, from the point of view of choir and audience alike.
