This summer, Harrow Choral Society will present a programme of jazz-inspired music in the Great Hall of Merchant Taylors’ School, Moor Park, Northwood, HA6 2HT on Saturday, 5^th July. Sam Evans will conduct the choir, accompanied by The L’Estrange Trio and joined by soprano Joanna Forbes L’Estrange. Written in 2003, Will Todd’s Mass in Blue has become a modern choral classic, combining the European Catholic tradition of the sung Mass and the African-American Blues. John Rutter’s Birthday Madrigals are a tribute to the great jazz pianist and composer, George Shearing, setting five poems from the Elizabethan age – two of them by Shakespeare – to music which, while influenced by jazz, is also very much in the madrigal tradition.
